    The Clifton Independent School District will host a school board candidate forum on Wednesday, April 10, starting at 6 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.

    The candidates running for two seats on the school board are Nick Brown, Steve Conrad, Matthew Domel (incumbent), Sean Marmolejo, Taylor McCain, and Jose Ritz.

    Parents, guardians, and community members who reside in Clifton ISD are invited and encouraged to attend and to familiarize themselves with school board candidates and to listen to the candidates answer questions on various school-related topics.

    The event will also be streamed on the Clifton ISD’s YouTube and Facebook pages.

    The first day of voting by personal appearance in the school board election is Monday, April 22, 2024; the last day of voting is Saturday, May 4, 2024.

    The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Tuesday, April 23.

    The Clifton ISD’s Board of Education narrowed down the dates for the forum during its regular board meeting on Monday, March 18.

    Contracts

    Also, during its regular meeting, the CISD board approved extending the contracts of Clifton Middle School Assistant Principal Karen Hanson and Clifton High School Assistant Principal Rusty Trammell.

    The extensions were recommended by Supt. Andy Ball, CMS Principal Brian Bartlett and CHS Principal Jimmy Jackson.

    New bus

    The board approved the purchase of a new school bus after discussion led by the superintendent on the need for a replacement.

    Supt. Ball said that one bus that was out of service had been the district’s fleet since 2008.

    Drug dogs

    The board approved extending the contract to Interquest Canines for dogs to monitor the campuses for drugs.

    Supt. Ball said that the district has contracted with the company since 2004.

    2024-25 school calendar

    The board approved the 2024-25 school calendar as recommended by Supt. Ball with input from the Site-Based Decision-Making Committee (SBDMC) and the CISD Leadership Team.

    The committee and team reviewed three different school calendar options.

    Supt. Ball stated that drafts A and B reflected 187 contracted days for teachers and 174 days for student instruction.

    Draft C – which the board approved – covered 180 contracted days for teachers and 171 days for student instruction.

    Quarterly reports

    CISD Business Manager Lisa Prescher presented the quarterly budget and investment reports.

    Consent agenda

    The board approved the consent agenda consisting of the minutes of the February 26 meeting.

    Interim Assessment Data

    The three campus principals presented data from their students’ interim assessments.
