    Meridian Public Library announces summer reading program

    The Meridian Public Library will hold its annual summer reading program every Tuesday in June and twice in July.

    This year, the program starts on Tuesday, June 4, and runs until Tuesday, July 16, from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

    The theme for the program is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”

    Book Club

    The book club at the library will next meet on Wednesday, May 22, at 10 a.m.

    The book “The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared” by Swedish author Jonas Jonasson will be discussed.

    The book is a comic novel first published in Swedish in September 2009 and in English in July 2012.

    The novel’s plot revolves around Allan Karlsson who is about to celebrate his 100th birthday, and his retirement home in Malmköping is planning to throw a party.

    “We look forward to you joining us!” the library staff said.

    Tea Party

    The library held is 2nd Annual Tea Party with young children at the Meridian Senior Center (Memorial Library) on Saturday, May 4.

    The library’s staff and board members said they enjoyed hosting the event which turned out to be another huge success.

    “What fun we all had!” the library staff said on social media. “We sang a song, heard a story, and learned all about manners.”

    The staff continued, “We had scones and fruit and muffins and special teacup cookies. Some very lucky children won the beautiful floral centerpieces!”

    “Can’t wait till our next Tea Party!” they said.

    Now in its 24th year, the Meridian Public Library’s mission is to provide educational support, library and information services, training, and outreach to Meridian and surrounding communities.

    The collection of the library contains over 16,600 volumes. This library circulates over 6,000 items per year.

    The library’s board organizes fundraisers in the fall and spring, and accepts book donations year-round.
