During its regular meeting on Monday, June 10, 2024, the Meridian City Council accepted the resignations of two members from the Meridian Parks and Recreation Board, scheduled crucial budget workshops, and approved new procurement policies in alignment with a state grant.

    Resignations

The Council accepted the resignations of Robin Baucom and Isaac Vasquez from the Meridian Parks and Recreation Board. Both resignations passed unanimously.

Following these resignations, the Council discussed and approved an amendment to reduce the board's size from seven to five members. This change aligns the board with its original composition.

    Next meeting and budget workshops

The council then moved on to scheduling future meetings.

Due to the city secretary's upcoming vacation, the regular July city council meeting was rescheduled from its usual second Monday slot to Monday, July 22, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.

This adjustment ensures that key administrative personnel can be present for critical discussions.

In preparation for the upcoming fiscal year, the council scheduled two budget workshops.

The first workshop was set for Monday, July 1, 2024, at 12 p.m., featuring a presentation from the Heart of Texas Council of Governments (HOTCOG). This session was expected to last until approximately 3:30 p.m.

A second workshop is scheduled for Monday, July 22, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., immediately preceding the rescheduled City Council meeting.

    Procurement policies

The Council also approved new procurement policies as part of their compliance with a grant from the Texas General Land Office. These policies are designed to ensure fairness and transparency in the city’s procurement processes, preventing any preferential treatment in the awarding of contracts.
