Two big, white vans pulled up to North Bosque Helping Hands Wednesday, July 17 when volunteers recognized Steven Henson and his wonderful group of kids from Camp Ailihpomeh (Hemophilia spelled backwards).
The group of boys visit the food pantry each summer as they stay at Camp John Marc outside Meridian. Their service to NBHH and other charitable and service organizations around Bosque County was worthy of praise. The young men, through their counselors, show outstanding leadership and citizenship.
Although this camp is only one week long, these are just some of their activities: Monday, they washed trucks at the Meridian Fire Department. Tuesday they visited BARK where they washed dogs, kennels and weed-eated to clean up the yards. Wednesday they visited the Meridian Food Bank and unloaded over 600 pounds of food items! Not only that, they carried it all in, weighed it and stocked shelves with things such as peanut butter, cornbread mix, canned green beans, canned corn and mac and cheese.
Their shopping was 'dead on' for high usage items that most every customer selects! Each camper made a $25 donation toward the project and after combining that with other resources, each of them was given one hundred dollars to spend at the grocery store to be delivered to the food bank! Oh Wow! is all I can say!
On Thursday they are picking up rocks and garbage around the camp as well as painting railings around the horse stables at Camp John Marc.
North Bosque Helping Hands would like to extend their deep appreciation for these 21 fine young men and of course, their nine counselors and support staff.
