SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Officials with the Merom Camp and Retreat Center are asking for the public’s help following damage stemming from a break-in last week.

According to a release, the camp’s Taylor Cabin sustained significant damage after an unidentified intruder broke in and left the shower running causing extensive flooding.

The flooding reportedly damaged the building structurally, rendering it uninhabitable.

Taylor Cabin has been a cornerstone of the Merom Camp and Retreat Center, hosting countless retreats, workshops, and community events. The damage has disrupted scheduled programs, displacing groups who rely on the cabin for their spiritual and communal activities. The financial burden of repairing the damages and restoring the cabin to its former glory is substantial and beyond the current means of the Center.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident but remain hopeful and determined to rebuild and restore Taylor Cabin,” said Board President Beth Reed. “With the support of our community, we can overcome this challenge and continue to provide a place of peace, reflection, and growth for all who visit.”

Officials with the religious camp are asking for financial contributions to cover the cost of repairs. The center is also launching an initiative called “Adopt Taylor Cabin” encouraging local organization’s to contribute to the cabin’s renovation by sponsoring specific repairs and restorations.
