MERRICK, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Officials arrested a man after two officers were hurt following an assault a Long Island gym over the weekend.

At 7:48 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 911 received a call for a disturbance at Planet Fitness, located at 1630 Merrick Rd. in Merrick, authorities said.

Upon officer’s arrival, Getho Brevette, 27, fled the scene in his 2015 Hyundai heading westbound on Merrick Road.

Shortly after, Brevette was involved in car accident and left the scene, but later returned to Planet Fitness, according to police.

As officers approached Brevette, he threw an unknown liquid on them, grabbed an officer’s body-worn camera, threw it on the ground causing it to break, and then attempted to remove the officer’s weapon.

According to detectives, two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest, as Brevette was violent and became combative while resisting arrest.

The two officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. Brevette was also transported to a local hospital.

Brevette is charged with two counts of assault, grand larceny, robbery, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, sexual abuse, forceable touching, and leaving the scene of an auto accident.

Brevette had previously been arrested on Saturday for a robbery at the First Baptist Church of Westbury and was released on Sunday.

    He was arraigned on Monday.
