The Lake Ripley Country Club Women’s Organization had 29 guests for their annual Guest Day held on Tuesday, June 25. The day started with an 8:15 AM shotgun and 56 golfers braving the humidity to play. Players enjoyed a 6-6-6 golf format including a drop out scramble, alternate shots and best ball with three par 5 scores filled by rolling the dice. The plaza built to honor African-American trails blazer Vel Phillips had it’s grand opening Friday. Mayor Cavalier Johnson and other city officials joined Phillip’s son Michael for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The plaza is located at 401 W. Wisconsin Ave.Michale Phillips who joined us last month to talk about the project again praised a public art installation that will be part of the plaza’s future. After graduating from Howard University, Vel Phillips attended University of Wisconsin Law school, becoming the first African American woman to graduate there. She and her husband opened a law firm. She became the first African-American woman on the Milwaukee Common Council and the first woman to be elected Secretary of State. A well deserved tribute to an exceptional woman. Full Story.
Neuhoff to Sell Remaining Radio Stations to Woodward Communications
Neuhoff Family Limited Partnership announces that it has entered into an agreement to sell its Springfield and Bloomington, Illinois radio stations to Woodward Communications, Inc for a sum yet to be announced. The asset purchase agreement has not been filed with the FCC yet. The stations include sports talk WFMB-AM in Springfield and four music brands plus three music FMs in the Bloomington market. Waunakee-based craft brewery The Lone Girl Brewing Company will open a second location on Madison’s east side on July 5. The new Lone Girl Taproom at 1817 E. Washington Ave. will feature Lone Girl's usual lineup of IPAs, stouts, ambers and more — plus, Roman-style pizza, an offering that's unique to the Madison taproom.

On June 24, the National Space & Missile Materials Symposium (NSMMS) and Commercial and Government Responsive Access to Space Technology Exchange (CRASTE) kicked off a joint conference on missile and space technology at Madison’s Monona Terrace. While the event’s branding cloaked it in images of astronauts and NASA spacecraft, it was very much a conference for defense contractors. Its sponsors included companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman—each of which provide Israel’s military with missiles, bombs, and fighter jets.
