Annual Walk for Hope returning to SVSU
SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Every year, hundreds of people in mid-Michigan gather to walk in support of suicide awareness and prevention. This year’s Walk for Hope is set to return to Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday, Aug. 4. The 5K walk/run was started 22 years ago by Barb Smith, founder of the Barb Smith Suicide Resource & Response Network.
Dow Receives Large Grant for Job retention
The State of Michigan has allocated a $120 million grant to Dow Chemical to retain roughly 5,000 jobs in the region. During its meeting on Tuesday, the Michigan Strategic Fund awarded the grant to Dow to support improvements to the company’s industrial park in Midland as well as its Auburn Operations facility. Dow says it’s working to expand its ability to manufacture materials that go into the creation of electric vehicle batteries. The State has also approved a 15-year State Essential Services Assessment property tax break and a 10-year extension to a Renaissance Zone tax incentive.

CARO — Police say that almost five years ago, Kendrick R. Abernathy forged two checks – payable to himself – for a total of $5,699. The checks, from Cass City Oil and Gas Co. to Abernathy, were forged by Abernathy on Sept. 1 and Sept. 6, of 2019. The Cass City Police Department, however, caught up to Abernathy, now 35, of Saginaw.
