The Midland Mall will have a newly installed, completed play area for children in mid-September. Mya Crane, the executive assistant of Midland Mall’s owner Jordan Dice, said the mall ownership wants the facility to be a place where families can spend time together and do activities free of charge.

Sebewaing brothers are ‘vintage’ in win
MAYVILLE — Sebewaing brothers Matt Rocha and Mark Rocha led the Mighty River Hogs of Midland to a 9-3 win over Mayville State Bank in a vintage baseball game on July 18. The contest, waged at Mayville’s Ohmer Park before about 100 fans during the Mayville Sunflower Festival, was played under 1860s “base ball” rules – which meant that a fielder could register an out by catching any batted ball after one hop.
Vogel's Two-Run Double Walks Off Captains 4-3
MIDLAND, Mich. – The Great Lakes Loons (45-45) (11-13) notched their sixth walk-off win of 2024, with a Jake Vogel two-run automatic double in the bottom of the ninth clinching a 4-3 victory over the Lake County Captains (54-36) (13-11) on a 73-degree cloudy Tuesday night at Dow Diamond.
Rededication held for Monitor Twp. park
MONITOR TWP., Mich. (WNEM) - After closing for a remodel last December, a mid-Michigan park held a special rededication and ribbon cutting Tuesday afternoon, July 23. Monitor Township’s Herbert W. Steih Memorial Park closed last December for a nearly $570,000 remodel that gave the park a whole new look and better access to the Kawkawlin River.
Remembering Meta Jackson and her fair legacy
CARO — To say the least, Walt and Meta Jackson were longtime backers of the Tuscola County Fair. Tuscola County Fair Board President Neil Jackson, of Caro, along with his brothers Gale Jackson and Myron Jackson, and sister Bonnie Carolan, lost their mother in May at the age of 89. Meta Jackson was a well-known Caro resident who forged quite the history with the Tuscola County Fair.
