Spirit’s Alex Christopoulos commits to STFX
The St. Francis Xavier University men’s hockey program has announced that Saginaw Spirit graduate and 2024 Memorial Cup champion Alex Christopoulos has committed for the 2024-25 season. Joining fellow OHL alumni on the rookie roster, the Richmond Hill, Ont. native concluded a successful overage season by helping Saginaw to its historic first Memorial Cup victory. Closing out a four-year OHL career, Christopoulos totaled 105 goals, 62 assists and 167 points over 251 regular season games played, adding 23 (15-8-23) points in 46 playoff contests. Tuscola native killed after breaking into home
ORION TWP. — Police say a native of the town of Tuscola, in Tuscola County, was shot and killed Wednesday after trying to kill his ex-girlfriend. Galen Gavit, 67, of Unionville, was shot in the head by his ex-girlfriend’s stepson after Gavit – carrying a .38-caliber revolver – broke into a home in Oakland County’s Orion Township.

Caro officials, Fair board to discuss future of camping
CARO — Earlier this year, the city of Caro and the Tuscola County Fair Board inked a five-year lease for use of the fairgrounds. That lease allowed camping at the fairgrounds, but with some conditions, based on limits imposed by existing ordinances. It allows the use of recreational vehicles, trailers or buses for no more than 14 days in any 90-day period, and limits three of those vehicles on each lot within the fairgrounds.
