Illegal Wilmington business shut down following ALE investigation
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - An illegal alcohol establishment has been shut down in Wilmington following an investigation by Alcohol Law Enforcement, per an ALE announcement. “On Friday, August 23, 2024, ALE, assisted by Wilmington Police Department, executed a search warrant at 1306 S. 16th Street, Wilmington, NC. This collaborative operation led to the seizure of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, US currency, assorted alcoholic beverages and one firearm. During the course of this investigation, Lanita Harrington was determined to be the operator of the illegal business,” the release states.

North Carolina Tax Return Preparer Indicted on Obstruction
A former Raleigh, N.C., man has been charged with 27 counts of preparing and filing false tax returns and obstructing the IRS, the Justice Department announced Tuesday. According to the DOJ, Jerome Osuamadi Nwabueze between 2018 and 2022 prepared and filed false tax returns for clients that reported wages, withholdings, business income, and expenses that were fabricated or inflated.
CMS Adding All-Electric Buses To Their Fleet For The First Time This School Year
More than 141,000 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) students will return to classrooms next week, bringing hundreds of buses back on the road. This year, CMS will add 3 new all-electric busses to their fleet of 839 buses. The new electric buses will be used throughout the county and are not assigned to specific schools.
