The Freeman Corn Patch, a local farmers market, is now open for the season at 80 E. Ninth Place in Mesa.

Mark and LeeAnn Freeman operate the Freeman Corn Patch just north of downtown Mesa. Look for the iconic barn at the southeast corner of Brown and Center.

“It offers fresh, locally grown produce and a unique community experience,” according to a release.

The Freeman Corn Patch is set on a historic farm that has been in the same family since 1927. The farm, leased to the Freemans by Ruth Nesbitt, produces alfalfa, various crops and honey. Open seasonally from Memorial Day to July 4, the market offers a wide variety of fresh produce, including sweet corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, squash, honey, onions, roasted chiles, Crenshaw melons and more.

Mark Freeman describes the market as “the only breath of fresh air left in the valley, in the center of Mesa,” highlighting its importance in maintaining the area’s rural charm and agricultural heritage, the release states.

The Freeman Corn Patch contributes to the local community by employing local youth. Over the past 20 years, the Freemans have hired more than 300 young workers, providing them with valuable job experience and the opportunity to contribute to the market’s success, the release states.

The Freeman Corn Patch is open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and will close on the afternoon of July 4.
