Eight winners — including one from Mesa — will be announced for the 2024 Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor Awards during the annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference June 26 in Prescott.

    The awardees are:

    • Conservation of Mission San Jose Tumacacori, Santa Cruz County.
    • Donna Reiner, Ph. D., Lifetime Achievement, Phoenix.
    • 1929 Fuller Pain Company Warehouse Rehabilitation & Adaptive Reuse, Phoenix.
    • Linda L. Mayro, M. A., Lifetime Achievement, Pima County.

    • Western Heritage Center, Prescott.

Since 1982, the Arizona Preservation Foundation and State Historic Preservation Office, a division of Arizona State Parks and Trails, partnered to present the Governor’s Heritage Honor Preservation Awards. The awards recognize people, organizations, and projects that represent outstanding achievements in preserving Arizona’s prehistoric and historic resources.

“For over three decades, these awards have served to honor the achievements of individuals and organizations who have worked tirelessly to preserve Arizona’s heritage for future generations,” State Historic Preservation Officer Kathryn Leonard said in the release.

The top honor of the day, the James W. Garrison Grand Award, will be announced at the ceremony. The award, named for retired state historic preservation officer, Jim Garrison, is selected by Gov. Katie Hobbs from all conference award winners.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Elks Theatre in downtown Prescott at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. Registration for the awards ceremony is not required; however, registration and payment is required for attendance at the reception that will follow. For those interested in attending the reception, contact Connie Gutierrez at 480-990-1887 x10 or by email at Connie@mcsource.net.
