Mesa has a new way to report illegal fireworks activity anonymously on the city’s website.

The reporting system is in place until July 6 and will be monitored throughout every day of operation.

Those who see illegal fireworks being used can visit mesa.gov, go to the “Residents” tab, “Police” and then  “Report Fireworks.”

The request creates an email that is sent to a specific mailbox, which is monitored by special operations lieutenants, sergeants and the Real Time Crime Center “to ensure no complaints are missed,” a release stated.

“Once a complaint is verified by either patrol officers in the community or by the Real Time Crime Center over video monitoring, officers will be dispatched to the area to investigate.”

To further deal with illegal fireworks, a group of Mesa police officers has been assigned to firework specific calls for service on July 4.

In addition, Mesa police and fire departments will continue to inspect pop-up tents that sell fireworks.
