    'Jackets second, Wolverines fifth at Rock Ridge Invite

    VIRGINIA—The Hibbing boys golf team finished two strokes behind Hermantown on Friday to take second at the Rock Ridge Invitational held at the Virginia Golf Course.

    The Hawks won the meet with a team score of 304 while the ‘Jackets were just behind them at 306. Duluth East was third (308), Grand Rapids fourth (310) and Rock Ridge fifth (313) to round out a tightly packed top five that was separated by less than 10 strokes.

    GNK finished sixth on the day (318), Ely/Northeast Range was 10th (361), Mesabi East 12th (380) and North Woods 13th (397).

    The Hawks’ Holdyn Evjen took home individual medalist honors, firing a 68 overall to win the event. He was four strokes better than the next closest golfer, Marco Rolle of Grand Rapids (72). Duluth East’s Kyle Peterson was third (73) and Rock Ridge’s Jace Kauppi was fourth (74).

    The Bluejackets placed two golfers inside the top five with Andrew Slatten and Ethan Sundvall tying for the position with identical 75s. Drew Bussey and Gavin Schweiberger rounded out the team’s top four, tying for 11th at 78.

    After Kauppi, Eli Devich was next for Rock Ridge in 10th (77), while eighth grader Cruise Greschner and senior Ian Mikulich tied for 21st (80).

    Caiden Carpenter was tops for the Titans in eighth place (76). He was aided by Cole Donahue in 16th (79), Louis Champlin in 24th (81) and Jack Klamm in 31st (82).

    Thomas Homer was the top golfer for Ely/Northeast Range. He took 24th (81) while Wesley Sandy was 57th (91). Lewis Powell finished 62nd (94) and Robert Towley 65th (95).

    Tops for the Giants was Logan Markfort in 53rd (89). Jared Dohert was 59th (92), Trevor Prophet 70th (99) and Nicholas Butzke 71st (100).

    Sawyer Glass led North Woods in 53rd (89), Gage Aune was 60th (93), Vinny Pascuzzi 74th (106) and Peyton Swanson 77th (109).

    Girls ERC

    COOK—The Rock Ridge girls golf team fired a nine-hole 187 to win an East Range Conference meet at Vermilion Fairways Friday.

    The Wolverines placed six golfers inside the top 10 to cruise to a victory at the meet but it was North Woods senior Tori Olson and International Falls senior Kelby Anderson that performed the best individually. The pair tied for the win on the day, firing identical 39s.

    Ely/Northeast Range was second on the day (221), GNK third (231), North Woods fourth (258) and International Falls fifth (263).

    Erin Hughes led Rock Ridge in third place with a 45. Emma Berg and Madison Fingeroos tied for fourth j(46) while Gabby Hutar finished sixth (48).

    Abby Koivisto led the team from Ely/Northeast Range, tying for seventh (50). Cylvia DeBeltz was 10th (54), Maizy Sundblad 12th (56) and Carena DeBeltz 16th (61).

    After Olson, Laurin Glass was 22nd (69), Carsyn Burnett 26th (74) and Sophia Hoffman 27th (76).
