HIBBING—The Reddogg Pet Resort opened for business this spring, and is now welcoming four-legged guests.

Madison and Jesse Kahl moved to their home on Foss Road about 7 years ago, and since June 2023 have been working on the big red steel building that is now a clean, well-lit modern boarding facility.

The business opened on May 9 and is accepting guests of all sizes for day, overnight and extended stays.

Madison said Reddogg offers its boarding kennel guests, a “clean, quiet and safe atmosphere.”

The resort cares for furbabies of all sizes, and there are no breed restrictions.

“We treat our guests as they are our own,” Jesse added.

The couple owns four dogs, including Harley, a Golden Retriever with a reddish coat that is the Mascot for Reddogg Pet Resort, along with Stella, also a Golden Retriever, Gene, a Bernese Mountain Dog and Ellie, a Husky Pitbull mix.

“He’s our big old, red dog,” Jesse said of Harley, a seven-year-old rescue dog.

The red color of the building along with Harley’s red fur were factors in naming the family-run owned boarding business, he noted.

The Kahls partnered with the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund for financing and some guidance as new business owners.

Inside the pet resort, there are 15 kennels, and each kennel includes a cot, allowing for a comfortable place to rest off the floor. Beyond the kennel room there is a fenced-in exercise area where guests are brought outside one at a time for exercise, unless requested otherwise.

Madison said the individual attention allows them to monitor how much time each guest is getting outdoors, keep track of bathroom habits, and make sure each animal is getting proper exercise and attention.

If requested, she said, the kennel also offers walks on a leash down the dirt road adjacent to their property.

Future plans call for adding additional “deluxe” kennels on the upper level, introducing a doggy daycare, and offering on site grooming.
