Giants down C-I in four to open season

CROSBY — The Mesabi East volleyball team started their season off on a positive note Thursday, picking up an opening night win over Crosby-Ironton 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16).

Getting the W on the road, Mesabi East was led at the net by hitters Molly House and Marta Forsline. House finished with 11 kills and a block while Forsline tallied 10 kills and three blocks. Greta Levelwind and Grace Paul added five kills apiece.

Paul led the team in aces with seven to go with three from Levelwind and two each from Forsline and Reese Heikkila. Heikkila added three blocks and 14 digs to her stat line.

Levelwind and House led with 15 digs each, Forsline tallied 11 and Paul had seven. Setter Lainey Rost ended the evening with 31 set assists.

Mesabi East (1-0) returns to action Monday when they travel to Nashwauk-Keewatin.
