A grand jury has indicted a Jefferson Parish man on a second-degree murder charge in the beating death of another man.

Prosecutors accuse Winston Bartholomew of killing Gary Olver inside Olver's apartment in Metairie and leaving Olver unconscious and bleeding on the floor of that apartment while going to a nearby bar.

Olver died two weeks later in a hospital.

According to our partners at NOLA.com, prosecutors say Bartholomew's motive was that he believed Olver was spreading rumors about his girlfriend. Batholomew, the paper reports, told investigators that he acted in self-defense.
