Lower Granite Fire Consumes 2,000 Acres and Destroys One Structure in Garfield County
POMEROY - The Lower Granite Fire, formerly the Dan Fire, broke out in Garfield County, north of Pomeroy, at around 11:30 a.m. on Monday. The blaze grew quickly due to strong winds, pushing smoke and ash into the Moscow and Pullman areas. By Monday evening, the fire had reportedly torched about 2,000 acres as it continued to push east into the Snake River Canyon on the Garfield County side. It burned in the canyon across the river from Wawawai Landing and Granite Point in Whitman County.
