TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Bryan has century-old businesses, exciting developments, and was recently named one of the best hometowns in Ohio. But Mayor Carrie Schlade said all of the positive things coming out of the community have been overshadowed by a legal battle between the city and Dad’s Place, a local church that’s housing the homeless.
DeLoreans, Mustangs, and more: Wicked Wheels adapting to growing popularity ahead of 5th annual event
Andy Glenn, a Springfield Township trustee for the last two decades, has his mom to thank for his involvement in the Wicked Wheels Car Fest. His mother’s dream car was a bright red 1965 Mustang convertible with a 289 engine, and in 2014, his father bought it for her. Now, as he prepares to bring it to the fifth annual Wicked Wheels show where he also serves as a judge, his enthusiasm is contagious. “I love old cars,” he said. “The old cars have a character to them that you just don’t find in things that are made today. They’re so easy to work on. They’re very simplistic. They don’t have the computers, and their designs are something you haven’t seen in a long time come out by auto manufacturers. They’re metal. They don’t have a lot of plastic parts in them. There’s just a lot that appeals about the older vehicles, especially with Gen Xers.” On Aug. 7, Glenn and hundreds of other proud car owners will gather in Springfield’s Homecoming Park to display models ranging from the latest models in dealerships to perfectly-preserved pieces from the ‘60s to firetrucks and racecars.

Southern Indiana Bank Announces Merger with Heartland BancCorp
German American Bancorp has announced it will merge with Ohio-based Heartland BancCorp. You don't have to drive too far in southwest Indiana to run across a German American Bank building. Growing up in Petersburg, Indiana, I often remember seeing the company's large bank building on Main Street with the flags waving in the wind out front. To me, it's become a staple along the stretch of wide road, and I don't think the city would look the same without it. Since I was a kid, the corporation has grown tremedously and has just announced yet another feat that will expand services into a neighboring state.

Local shelters work to help the homeless vote
The Secretary of State’s Office in May identified more than 6,000 voters in Lucas County as “inactive,” but more than 100 of those individuals were registered with addresses of homeless shelters or rehabilitation facilities. That leads to an important question: How accessible is voting for the area’s homeless population? “Voting for those facing housing insecurity is absolutely a huge problem,” said Jen Miller, the executive director for the League of Women Voters of Ohio. At Leading Families Home, four people were identified. Four more people were listed at La Posada Family Emergency Shelter. At the Joshua Treatment Center in Holland, seven people were named, and 12 people were identified at Empowered for Excellence Behavioral Health.
