Hurricane Ernesto nears Bermuda, dangerous conditions at East Coast beaches plus severe weather risk

We have arrived at the doorstep of the weekend and we are going to have one last day of sunshine and low humidity before things change. Satellite loops show an upper trough to the northeast over Atlantic Canada. That is slowing down the next upper trough and cold front that is moving across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. This leaves is in sunshine for much of the day and temperatures will be topping out in a range of 80 to 85. Dew points will remain reasonable in the mid to upper 50s. No rain is in the forecast for today and overnight. Humidity levels across the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic will begin rising as a southerly flow develops along the East Coast bringing in low level moisture. Saturday morning lows will be in the 60s for the most part. Now as far as the weekend goes, if you have to pick one day I would go with Saturday over Sunday.

The approaching front will probably come close enough to bring showers to inland areas late in the day Saturday into Saturday night while coastal areas from Southern New England to Southern New Jersey probably won't see much in the way of rain. Otherwise Saturday will be a muggy day with clouds and some breaks of sunshine with highs reaching into the 80s.

Sunday we are likely to see a higher chance for downpours and thunderstorms as the cold front pushes a little further east. Ahead of this it will be a cloudy Sunday. Downpours and thunderstorms will become more numerous with temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s. We also have severe weather risk Sunday per the Storm Prediction Center. They are indicating a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms mainly from New York City and Northern New Jersey southward.

We will probably have another round of showers and thunderstorms to deal with Monday as the cold front stalls temporarily. It is waiting for Hurricane Ernesto to pass to the northeast which it will do Monday coming close to Nova Scotia but remaining offshore, and Newfoundland where Ernesto could come very close to the southeast coast of the island.

Hurricane Ernest has 100 mph winds and will be nearing Bermuda today as weather conditions deteriorate later today and tonight. The center of Ernesto is forecast to pass very close to or directly over the island during the day Saturday. Ernesto's track is going to create dangerous surf conditions up and down the East Coast beaches from Maine to Florida this weekend. Rip currents, high waves and strong undertows will develop and these conditions will likely linger into the beginning of next week.
