Week Ahead Features Onshore Flow, A Moist Atmosphere & Perhaps A Small Tropical System Off Southeast

After 8 days of sunshine and seasonal conditions in the northeast, (and not a drop of rain in over a week) things are about to change somewhat for the week ahead. The big dome of high pressure that has been covering much of the Eastern US is making its exit to the east. The flow this week is going to become more onshore and things will get moistened up somewhat. We will be transitioning over to clouds and the risk for some showery rains, drizzle, and fog. This probably begins Tuesday.

Today however is another day of sunshine once we get rid of any overnight and early morning low clouds and patchy fog, which we will. The winds are light east to southeast. The air is still reasonably dry though dew points are coming up a bit. High temperatures this afternoon will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s. Cooler temperatures are forecast for coastal locations and south and east facing shorelines. While our weather is quiet there is an old frontal boundary off the Southeast US coast and it lies east-west from the South Carolina coast east northeast to just north of Bermuda. Lower than normal pressures off the Southeast US coast will try to organize later today and tonight. There is a chance that this could become a tropical depression or a small tropical storm Monday as the low heads northwest to the South and North Carolina coast.

This system, if it does develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm will bring gales and some rain to the Coastal Carolinas and some heavy rain inland but it will not have much time to develop before the center moves over land. It is certainly no issue for the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic states with no worse than partly sunny skies Monday and highs will be in the mid 70s to around 80.

Monday and Tuesday clouds will be rolling in with an east wind and highs in the 70s It will be on the humid side and then we will see what happens to this low in the Southeast US. It appears that it will move northward up the Appalachians Tuesday and Wednesday and this might bring some showery rains Tuesday night into Wednesday. Temperatures Tuesday will be in the 70s.

The onshore flow will be an issue for the res of the week which probably means clouds and occasional issues with either showery rains, or just some light rain or drizzle with temperatures during the day in the 70s. No major rain is forecast from this possible tropical system. However the days of endless sunshine are coming to an end.
