ALBANY, Ore. — In 2022, the Oregon Legislature passed a landmark bill requiring overtime pay for farm workers. It gave employers a gradual ramp-up, so they won't be paying overtime after a 40-hour week until 2027. But since the beginning of last year, farms have needed to pay time and a half when workers exceed 55 hours.

Supports available for migrant workers' families during peak harvest in OR
A program in the Columbia River Gorge helps migrant farmworkers' families during harvest season. The Resources Available for Migrant Access to Services group is led by the Oregon Child Development Coalition in Hood River and Wasco Counties. It provides support during a four-week period of peak harvest time, including food boxes to families.

Man dies from bike fall in Southwest Portland
A bicyclist has died of injuries sustained in a fall in the Multnomah Neighborhood. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the victim is Gad Alon, 74. Emergency medical services were called to the fall at Southwest Capitol Highway and Southwest Florida Street at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, July 6. Police were not called because there was no indication of a crime or a crash involving anyone else. Police said Alon died in a hospital on July 17, 11 days after the fall. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner. The death was the 35th traffic related fatality for 2024 in the city of Portland.
