Miami Beach, FL - A Miami Beach man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing a friend following an argument during a soccer viewing.

Police were approached by a frantic man claiming to have been stabbed in the chest on Monday.

Officers observed a stab wound and rendered first aid before transporting the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

According to the arrest report, the victim identified his attacker as 34-year-old Jhon Jairo Lopez Cuellar, a homeless man.

Police located Lopez Cuellar nearby and arrested him.

A yellow-handled knife believed to be the weapon was found in his possession.

The details of the argument that preceded the stabbing remain undisclosed, but Rivera reported attempting to de-escalate the situation after Lopez Cuellar made inappropriate comments toward a woman.

Despite Rivera's efforts, Lopez Cuellar allegedly threatened to kill him and proceeded to stab him twice.

Rivera told investigators he feared for his life and believed Lopez Cuellar, who had been his friend for approximately four months, would have killed him if he hadn't fled.

The two men reportedly traveled together to Miami for work from New York City.

Lopez Cuellar exercised his right to remain silent after being advised of his Miranda rights.

He is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center facing a charge of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
