Miami-Dade County has taken legal action against the troubled Miami Seaquarium, filing a lawsuit to evict MS Leisure Company from the Virginia Key property. The lawsuit alleges concerns related to animal welfare and structural issues at the park. According to Miami Dade County officials, MS Leisure Company failed to maintain the animals in accordance with federal laws and regulations and neglected the premises’ upkeep.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Raquel Regalado jointly emphasized their commitment to the animals’ safety and wellbeing. They believe the grounds for lease termination still exist and have decided to proceed with the eviction process in court. The Dolphin Company, which owns the Seaquarium, is expected to facilitate a safe and orderly transition for the animals.

The Seaquarium’s owners argue that they’ve improved conditions at the park and are suing the county to protect their legacy and marine conservation efforts. Questions remain about the fate of the animals, but the Seaquarium’s parent company dropped a request for a temporary restraining order after receiving assurances from county officials regarding animal protection.

In summary, while the legal battle continues, the animals remain the property of the company, and the Seaquarium faces eviction from its current location on Virginia Key
