Uber Impersonator Arrested for February 2023 Kidnapping, Battery Of Woman

Miami-Dade, FL - A Miami-Dade man posing as a rideshare driver was arrested for kidnapping and assaulting a woman during a late-night ride in February of 2023.

Police say 38-year-old Alberto Angulo Lopez was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly posing as a rideshare driver, kidnapping a woman, and assaulting her during the ride.

According to police, the assault occurred after the victim and her friend left a South Beach nightclub.

Authorities say that after the victim's car was towed, she entered Angulo Lopez's vehicle believing he was a rideshare driver.

He initially took the victim and a friend to the tow yard, but police allege his behavior changed after the victim's friend exited the car.

The arrest report states that the victim, who was reportedly intoxicated, woke to Angulo Lopez inappropriately touching her.

Despite her pleas to stop, the suspect continued to harass and assault her throughout the drive, allegedly driving her in the opposite direction of her requested destination while making lewd remarks.

Fearing for her safety, the victim contacted her ex-boyfriend and shared her location.

Police used this information and electronic toll data to track their movements.

The victim eventually convinced Angulo Lopez to drop her off at her ex's house by claiming her family was searching for her.

Despite the ordeal, Angulo Lopez demanded payment for the fabricated ride.

Fearing further aggression, the victim paid him electronically.

The victim reported the assault the following day, and police identified Angulo Lopez through the payment transaction.

After failing to schedule an interview, authorities secured an arrest warrant and apprehended Angulo Lopez at his residence on Tuesday.

He is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of kidnapping and battery.
