    Celebrate Juneteenth in Miami with film screenings, festivals and more

    Juneteenth became a federal holiday three years ago, but has long been celebrated as America's second independence day.

    • Organizations across Miami are hosting events this week to celebrate and honor that history.

    ๐ŸŽถ North Miami Juneteenth Festival features music, food, an artisan market and public speakers to share insights into the significance of the holiday.

    • The free event is at the Griffing Community Center Tuesday (6pmโ€“10pm) and Wednesday (12pmโ€“9pm).

    ๐Ÿก Celebrate at the Historic D.A. Dorsey House in Overtown with a full day of food, live music, book giveaways and author readings.

    • Hosted by the Miami Urban Contemporary Experience. Free, 1pmโ€“8pm Wednesday.

    ๐Ÿ“š Head to Barry University for an immersive celebration, titled Uhuru: Liberation Through Education and Cultural Creativity .

    • Attendees will celebrate freedom through the sharing of history, art, music and discussions. Wednesday 4pmโ€“7pm. Free.

    ๐ŸŽญ The Juneteenth Experience hosted by Hued Songs and Miami New Drama will feature short film screenings and live performances paying homage to the holiday's spirit of liberation and freedom.

    • The two-day event begins Tuesday night (7pm) at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach and runs through Wednesday.
    • Tickets begin at $31.50.

    ๐ŸŽฅ End Juneteenth with a screening of "Rosewood" at the Teach the Truth Overtown Community Garden.

    • The event (8pm Wednesday) is free, but donations are encouraged. Guests can bring blankets and chairs.
