After receiving pledges from eight Class of 2025 prospects in June, the Miami Hurricanes began July with a flourish on Monday, picking up a commitment from four-star linebacker Gavin Nix.

Nix, who attends Bradenton’s IMG Academy, had 42 tackles (including seven for loss), a sack and five quarterback hits in seven games last season, according to MaxPreps.

Nix, who’s 6-foot and 220 pounds, chose UM over FSU and Oregon. He had a slew of offers from other top schools, as well, including including UF, Alabama and Notre Dame.

The Hurricanes reportedly view him as a middle linebacker.

247 Sports ranks Nix the 88th best 2025 prospect in the nation and the No. 11 linebacker.

On3.com ranks Nix the 153rd best player in the 2025 class and the No. 17 linebacker.

Rivals rates him the 143 best player and sixth best linebacker in the 2025 class.

ESPN ranks Nix 191st overall. On ESPN’s board, he becomes the Canes’ second-highest graded commitment for 2025, behind another linebacker, Kissimmee-based Elijah Melendez, who’s ranked 187th.

Miami Central’s Ezekiel Marcelin is the third linebacker in UM’s 2025 class.

“I think the main thing would be the consistency that the staff has showed me since they’ve been there,” Nix told 247 Sports of why UM appeals to him. “...Obviously, there’s been a lot of great schools that I’ve been able to experience, build great relationships with, but the love that Miami has showed me has never wavered.

Nix is UM’s 15th commitment in a class that is rated in the top 20 by all the major services, including 15th by 247 Sports.

Per 247 Sports, 10 of those players are four-star prospects and five are three-star players.

And UM’s momentum is expected to continue. 247 Sports has named Miami the favorite for Jacksonville-based four-star safety Hylton “Drake” Stubbs, who also is considering UF after decommitting from Southern Cal last week He’s planning a Thursday announcement.
