Four-Star Linebacker Gavin Nix Commits To Miami

Mario Cristobal continues to add to his defensive recruiting class.

Last night, IMG Academy prospect Gavin Nix announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. Nix, the number 88 overall prospect, 11th-ranked Linebacker, and 15th-ranked prospect in the state of Florida, had his list of finalists down to Miami, Oregon, and Florida State. He had offers from Alabama, Penn State, Texas, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, as well.

Here’s what Gavin Nix said about the entire process, leading up to his decision Monday. Full quote via 247sports.com :

“I think the main thing would be the consistency that the staff has showed me since they’ve been there,” Nix said of Miami ahead of his commitment. This process has really been a journey. Obviously, there’s been a lot of great schools that I’ve been able to experience, build great relationships with, but the love that Miami has showed me has never wavered.

“Throughout the whole process, coming down to the end, everything that I value throughout this process, Miami was very strong at making sure they can fill all of my needs in this process. Off the field, it’s a lot of things that I want to get into and with the network in Miami, it’s amazing. A lot of opportunities outside of football, and most definitely feel like Coach Cristobal has the right vision for the future and he has a staff that’s willing to back him. So that’s why I feel like in the next couple of years, they’ll be back where they need to be. And that’s something that I want to be a part of.”

Gavin Nix becomes the highest-ranked prospect for the 2025 recruiting class for Miami. Nix joins Kissimmee (Fla.) Elijah Melendez and Miami (Fla.) Central’s Ezekiel Marcelin as linebacker commits for Cristobal. The Hurricanes currently have the sixth-best recruiting class for the 2025 cycle.
