The Miami Heat haven’t been around as long as some of the other franchises in the NBA, but they have had quite a few legends wear their jersey over the years. One of them was star two-way center Alonzo Mourning .

Mourning earned five All-Star selections, two Defensive Player of the Year awards, and a title during his time with the Heat. As a result, when asked to list off his all-time Heat starting five, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see Mourning include himself on that list.

Alonzo Mourning picks his all-time Miami Heat lineup

The Heat have only been around since 1989, yet they have managed to win three championships during that short period of time. After their inception, Mourning ended up becoming one of the first stars to play for Miami.

A long list of stars has followed Mourning to the Heat, making the creation of this all-time starting five somewhat difficult. The Hall of Fame big man, though, made his picks pretty easily.

“That’s easy,” Alonzo Mourning said on All The Smoke . “Me at the center, (Tim Hardaway Sr.) at the point, Dwyane Wade, ‘Bron, and (Chris Bosh).”

Jimmy Buttler and Bam Adebayo snubbed

There are some easy choices for this lineup that Mourning obviously makes. ‘Zo’ himself is a fairly easy choice, as is Dwyane Wade and LeBron James . The final two spots are a bit more up for grabs, and that’s where this list becomes complicated.

For his final two spots, Mourning chooses Tim Hardaway Sr. and Chris Bosh , and both spots certainly make sense. Hardaway helped bring the Heat to prominence in the 1990s alongside Mourning, while Bosh was a key piece of the Big Three era alongside James and Wade.

As for potential snubs, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo are two guys who have had a strong run with the team. If they aren’t on the list yet, they could be soon. Udonis Haslem also deserves consideration, given how he spent his entire career in Miami.

Ultimately, there’s not much to complain about regarding this list from Mourning. And while Butler and Adebayo could find their way into the all-time lineup soon, for the time being, this seems like a strong starting five from the Heat legend.
