Yankees reportedly in the mix to make blockbuster trade for Marlins All-Star

The New York Yankees reportedly are among the teams in the mix to make a blockbuster trade for Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott.

With the July 30 trade deadline just a few days away, the Yankees have a desperate need to add more talent to the bullpen, especially on the back end.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post , the Yankees are joined by the Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners in contention to trade for Scott.

The Yankees need bullpen reinforcements in the worst way, and there was a stark reminder of that Friday night when the bullpen blew a three-run lead late against the Boston Red Sox in the 9-7 loss at Fenway Park.

The 30-year-old was an All-Star for the first time this season, and he's in the middle of a spectacular campaign.

Scott has a 1.18 ERA in 45.2 innings to go along with 53 strikeouts, 27 walks and a 1.01 WHIP. He brings the type of strikeout stuff the Yankees need in the bullpen and could be the one to supplant Clay Holmes as the closer given the latter's seven blown saves this season.

It will be interesting to see what the price for Scott will be considering he's a free agent after the season, but this is the type of move that could give the Yankees a jolt.
