The Yankees needed a jolt at the end of a rough July, and they got one Saturday.

New York agreed to a deal to acquire Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Marlins, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal . Miami Herald's Craig Mish first reported that the Yankees and Marlins were in talks on a Chisholm trade.

The move comes three days before the trade deadline, with the Yankees under intense pressure to make an aggressive move as a rocky July nears an end. New York stumbled into the All-Star break after a disheartening loss in Baltimore and is just 2-5 since, with three consecutive losses leading up to Saturday's deal.

The Yankees' lineup has struggled to coalesce around stars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, who have both put themselves into the AL MVP conversation. Adding Chisholm could give New York a spark on and off the field as the team tries to keep pace with the Orioles in the AL East.

Chisholm has shown All-Star potential in spurts with the Marlins, but the 26-year-old has often struggled with injuries. He hit 33 home runs across 157 games between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and the Yankees certainly believe they can tap into some of that raw power with Chisholm under contract through 2026.

Here are the full details on the swap between the Yankees and Marlins.

    Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade details

Here's what we know about the deal so far:

    Yankees receive

    • 2B/OF Jazz Chisholm Jr.

    Marlins receive

    • C Agustin Ramirez
    • INF Jared Serna
    • INF/OF Abrahan Ramirez

Catching prospect Agustin Ramirez is the headliner of the three-player package heading to the Marlins for Chisholm.

Ramirez ranks as the Yankees' No. 3 prospect, according to Baseball America's most recent update. That wasn't the case entering the season, but the 22-year-old was dominant in double-A this season with a .289 AVG, 16 home runs and a .942 OPS over 58 games. Ramirez hasn't enjoyed the same success in triple-A, where he has a .224 AVG and .692 OPS in 29 games, but the Marlins evidently believe he has the potential to become a long-term piece in Miami.

Serna, also 22, stands at just 5-7 but hit ..283 with 19 home runs and an .813 OPS in the minor leagues last season. He's hitting .253 with 13 home runs and a .785 OPS in advanced-A ball this season.

Ramirez is just 19 but has thrived as a contact hitter in rookie ball this season, batting .340 with two home runs and a .960 OPS.

Chisholm had been reported as a potential trade candidate, but the Marlins were under no pressure to trade him before the deadline. Chisholm is under contract through 2026, and teams tend to demand a premium for controllable hitters. The Yankees stepped up with an offer that impressed Miami, perhaps pressured to make a move amid their July struggles, and Ramirez was the headliner that got a deal done.

Chisholm is hitting .249 with 13 home runs, 22 stolen bases and a .730 OPS in 2024, after posting a .761 OPS in 97 games last season. This is only the second time Chisholm has surpassed 100 games in a season.

Chisholm was converted into an outfielder in Miami, but he prefers to return to the infield, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman . While his position with the Yankees is still to be determined, Chisholm likely has an easier path to the infield in the Bronx.
