On300 Georgia running back showing meaningful interest in Miami Hurricanes: “They’ve been giving me good energy”

Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek 2026 four-star running back Amari Latimer may be one of Georgia’s best in next year’s recruiting cycle, but it hasn’t stopped him from showing interest in Miami .

The 6-foot, 200-pound running back and No. 202 overall recruit in the On300 has landed more than two dozen offers from programs including Georgia, Ohio State, Texas and Notre Dame , although he’s received plenty of attention from Miami since coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2026 prospects in mid-June. Latimer received his Miami offer last October but has had increased communication over the last month.

Latimer is originally from Miami but moved to Georgia as a young child.

“Ever since (mid-June) they’ve been giving me good energy,” Latimer said of Miami’s staff. “They’ve been talking to me almost every day and I’m hearing from multiple coaches, so that’s always good that I know that they’re interested. I was also a fan of Miami growing up, so that was a school that I always looked at, especially on Saturdays.”

Latimer has largely communicated with running backs coach Matt Merritt and offensive analyst Benedick Hyppolite . He said both “seem like good people over the phone” and “are really genuine.” He last visited Miami for the Hurricanes’ Legends Camp last year.

“They tell me every time they get a chance to talk to me how much they want me to get down there and just be a part of the program,” Latimer said. “From what I know, it’s a real nice school. It seems like the players get along well, and they also have the major I want to major in, so that’s good.”

Latimer said he wants to land at a school where he feels important to both the coaching staff and players around him. He added locker room chemistry will play a factor along with on and off-field development.

    CaneSport’s Take

We’re starting to get an early idea of Miami’s 2026 running back targets between prospects like Latimer, four-star West Boca prospect Javian Mallory and four-star Tampa-area back Javari Barnett , although we still have a ways to go. Miami has plenty of depth in the current running back room and could add one or two backs in next year’s class depending how the roster shapes up.
