Top-35 prospect, No. 2 TE Kaiden Prothro views Miami as early contender after Hurricanes weekend visit

Bowdon (Ga.) four-star 2026 tight end Kaiden Prothro believes it’s still far too early to name a firm list of top schools. But after returning to Miami for the second time this summer for Saturday’s recruiting cookout, the No. 2 tight end in next year’s cycle views the Hurricanes as an early contender.

The No. 34 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 7 prospect in the state of Georgia has continued to gain interest in Miami after a weekend-long unofficial visit with his mother in June and a separate trip with his father this past weekend. The 6-foot-6.5, 210-pound prospect said he has an idea what it would be like to play for tight ends coach Cody Woodiel and plans to closely watch Miami’s play style this fall, adding tight end involvement and production will be meaningful factors in his eventual decision.

“I’m definitely going to keep an eye on Miami, just seeing how their program does this year,” Prothro said. “I’m seeing that they’re getting some great guys, and I feel like Miami is going to be a great program over the next couple of years with some big recruiting classes. I’m (seeing) how their offense is building over time and becoming an offensive powerhouse here.”

Miami has pushed hard for the four-star prospect since coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2026 recruits in mid-June, and Woodiel has made a strong early impression. Prothro doesn’t believe wins and losses by themselves will have the largest impact on the way he views Miami this fall and will consider the context of how well the Hurricanes perform, how the offense looks and how well Miami’s tight ends play.

He also believes Woodiel is a capable and qualified tight ends coach and thinks head coach Mario Cristobal has good relationships with his players. He calls Cristobal “a great coach.”

“I feel like he has a really good connection with his players,” Prothro said. “He was at Oregon and then he came here, and some of the players who were at Oregon followed him here. Just seeing he has that impact on the players, that he has that connection with the players (is important) – he means something to them.”

    CaneSport’s Take

We’re seeing another instance where Miami’s staff is betting heavily on itself to meet the lofty on-field expectations both the fans and program have set this season, which should only put more pressure on Cristobal and his two coordinators. I have little doubt Miami will finish with top-10 recruiting classes in both the 2025 and 2026 cycles if the Hurricanes squeak into the playoff this year.
