Over the last few months, St. Augustine (Fla.) four-star wide receiver Somourian Wingo has developed a strong relationship with Miami Hurricanes wide receivers coach Kevin Beard.

This past weekend, the 2026 pass catcher had the opportunity to spend extensive time with Beard and get an in-depth look at Miami for the first time.

“I’m really impressed with everything and how coach Beard handled everything,” Wingo told CaneSport. “How he’s in control, how he breaks everything down to make it easier, which interests me in Miami a lot.”

Saturday’s visit was also the first time Wingo met Beard in person, and the two hit it off almost instantaneously.

“I also really like his energy and the way he moves around,” Wingo said. “Also, we connected so fast the first time we met. Coming to this school, I can tell we could have a good relationship. I underestimated his character and didn’t know he was that open and exciting. It really impressed me.”

Growing up in the Sunshine State, the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder has always been a fan of the Hurricanes and is excited to now have the opportunity to potentially suit up for Miami down the road.

“I just like everything about the Hurricanes,” Wingo said. “I’ve always been a Miami fan. It’s really a blessing to be here on the field that the guys practice on and just being around them.”

Wingo, who is the No. 204 overall prospect and No. 34 wide receiver in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, named Miami, Florida, and Missouri as the programs that have shown the most interest in his recruitment.

He also explained what he’ll be looking for in a program while navigating through his recruiting process the most.

“Really, the relationship with the coaches and how they can develop me as a receiver,” Wingo said. “Also the atmosphere and how I’m being treated around the staff.”

    CaneSport’s take

Wingo is one of the Hurricanes’ most wanted pass catchers in the 2026 class, so seeing him on campus this past weekend was no surprise. After speaking with him, it seems as if Beard and Miami’s staff left a lasting impression and have solidified themselves as a true contender early in his recruitment.
