The Miami Marlins have made some changes to their roster before their series with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

It was announced by the Marlins that the team has designated veteran outfielder Nick Gordon . Gordon was acquired by the team this past offseason in a trade with the Minnesota Twins in exchange for LHP Steven Okert .

Gordon took over as the team's centerfielder once the Marlins traded Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the New York Yankees before the MLB Trade Deadline but the production was not as expected. The 28 year old former first rounder only put up a .627 OPS on the season.

Miami claimed outfielder Cristian Pache off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, leaving Gordon in limbo for a spot on the roster. Although Pache possesses a higher potential with greater defensive ability the Marlins newcomer had a rough weekend against the Atlanta Braves. He was called out on a pitch violation and had some base running issues against his former team.

The team will attempt to have Gordon clear waivers. If no other team claims him, he could be assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville.

In the corresponding move, the Marlins have added outfielder Derek Hill to the active roster. Hill is also a recent waiver claim coming over from the San Fransisco Giants. The team from the Bay DFA'd Hill on August 2nd. He played in 21 games with San Fransisco in 2024 hitting .255/.293/.455 with three homers and seven RBIs.

The Marlins will play four games against the Cincinnati Reds at LoanDepot Park beginning on Monday. The first pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST.
