Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington four-star cornerback Ben Hanks is ready to make a decision sooner rather than later.

The No. 72 overall prospect in the On300 and No. 10 cornerback, who has been one of Miami’s top cornerback targets for the last two years and is arguably the top defensive back in South Florida in the 2025 cycle, wants to choose between Miami , Florida and Louisville before the start of his senior season Aug. 16. Hanks hasn’t set a firm date, but he expects to pull the trigger within the next two weeks.

Hanks has been RPM’d to the Gators by four On3 staff members, including On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. But Miami is still pushing hard and is a serious contender, especially after the Hurricanes made a strong impression on his visit the final weekend of July for the Hurricanes end-of-summer recruiting cookout.

“I’d say it definitely means (something) going back to talk to all of the defensive staff and coach (Mario) Cristobal , just telling me to have a good time (at the cookout), just talk to everybody and have a vibe,” Hanks said. “I went out there, so it was a good overall (experience).”

Cristobal and Florida head coach Billy Napier have each been directly involved in his recruitment, and both schools have their individual appeals.

“At Florida, of course my dad played there, so I’d say continuing the legacy would be a good thing if I choose to go there,” Hanks said. “And then at Miami, it’s the environment. Playing at home, playing in front of your family and friends out there and keeping the Miami talent in Miami.”

Four-star Miami cornerback commit Chris Ewald and four-star safety commit Amari Wallace have both made their pushes for Hanks, although four-star Florida receiver commits Joshua Moore and Vernell Brown III have made the same push for the Gators.

Hanks said several players at Miami have reached out as well but did not specify which players. He said players and staffers have pitched the idea of playing in their backyard and playing alongside players he’s known since childhood.

Hanks believes his decision is more likely to come closer to Aug. 16. He’s uncertain if he’ll attend the Miami-Florida game in Gainesville at the end of the month.

    CaneSport’s Take

I’m continuing to lean toward the Gators, but I imagine things could get testy if Florida loses this fall and Napier’s seat continues to heat up (or, potentially, he’s fired).
