A lottery player was “shocked” to see a $2 ticket he bought at a Florida convenience store was worth a jackpot prize.

Edin Galindo of Tampa won a top prize in the $50,000 A Year For Life game and opted for a one-time payout of $815,000, the Florida Lottery said Aug. 22.

He beat the 1-in-4,815,975 odds to win one of eight top prizes in the scratch-off game , which debuted in July 2023, according to the Florida Lottery.

Galindo claimed his prize in Tallahassee, telling lottery officials he was “very excited” about his win.

The 41-year-old made his purchase at a Tampa Quick Mart, which will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to the Florida Lottery.

Only three top prizes remain in the game.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
