Mariah Carey shares video after enduring a ‘couple of rough weeks’

Mariah Carey is getting back to work after enduring a family tragedy.

In August, Carey confirmed in a statement shared with People that both her mom, Patricia Carey, and her sister, Alison Carey, died on the same day.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” the statement read, according to the outlet.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Mariah continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Little details are still known about Patricia and Alison’s deaths.

Now, Mariah is revealing that she getting back to work and back on the road after taking some time to deal with the grief.

Alongside the video, she wrote, “Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you!”

In the video, Mariah is singing one of her hit songs, “It’s Like That,” which features rapper Fatman Scoop. Scoop also died on Aug. 30 “after collapsing on stage during a performance in Connecticut,” CBS News reported.

He was 56 years old.

In her 2020 memoir, Mariah was open about her difficult relationship with her mom.

She ultimately dedicated her memoir to her mom, writing, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”

Patricia was a trained opera singer and a well-known vocal coach. Despite their complicated relationship, Mariah and Patricia have performed together in the past.

It’s unclear what Carey’s relationship with her sister was at the time of Alison’s death. In her book, she revealed she went no contact with her siblings.
