A new trend involving some “serious sleuthing” is going viral on TikTok.

The trend targets professional athletes, asking them to autograph a photo of themselves.

But, the photos are very old ... and very embarrassing.

“That’s disgusting,” professional golfer Sarah Schmelzel can be heard saying in a Sept. 10 video posted to the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s TikTok account.

The video that’s garnered more than 358,000 views as of Sept. 16 also shows professional golfers Nelly Korda, Ally Ewing and Andrea Lee all cringing at the “sweet nostalgia.”

When it comes to this trend, no athlete is safe.

The Seattle Mariners baseball team posted to its TikTok account on Sept. 13 to show why the players need to “scrub the internet.”

“Where did you even find this? Get that away from me, I’m not signing that,” unamused pitcher Tayler Saucedo can be heard saying while holding a photo showing him shirtless while wearing a cowboy hat and a white apron, according to the video that’s garnered more than 774,000 views as of Sept. 16.

The Phoenix Mercury women’s basketball team was also on the chopping block with a Sept. 9 video on its TikTok account captioned, “We’re framing each of these above their lockers.”

“That’s … Wow that’s tragic,” center Brittney Griner said in the video that’s been seen more than 31.3 million times as of Sept. 16.

The truth of the photos’ origin came out in some videos with Los Angeles Chargers’ cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. saying, “Ya’ll went on Facebook?” before the cameraperson says, “Yeah,” according to the Sept. 4 TikTok with more than 14.7 million views as of Sept. 16.

Others, such as Chargers’ wide receiver Quentin Johnston, just walked away when presented with an old mirror selfie, the video captioned, “Brb scrubbing Facebook rn” showed.

Some poked fun at their own photos with Toronto Argonauts’ defensive lineman Jordan Williams saying, “I got my foot on my mama’s good counter” before the Canadian Football League player added, “With a Hollister shirt on,” the video captioned, “We found some gems” showed.

Commenters were in agreement with how much they “love this trend,” with one person saying, “Life is short. But Facebook memories are forever!”

“This is ELITE comedy,” one said.

    “Best. Trend. Period.,” another wrote.

Someone even offered a suggestion on how to level up the prank by saying, “MAKE A CALENDAR.”
