A 21-year-old student was attending college in New York as a fugitive, according to authorities, who said he’s wanted in Georgia for murder.

Dawensley Astrel, 21, was arrested Sept. 16 at SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton, a city about a 140-mile drive southwest from Albany, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced Sept. 17.

Astrel, of Binghamton, was taken “into custody without incident while he was on campus,” authorities said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office said it learned Astrel was accused of murder in Georgia, where an arrest warrant had been issued for him, last week.

It wasn’t specified where the arrest warrant was issued out of Georgia or when the alleged murder took place.

McClatchy News contacted the Broome County Sheriff’s Office for more information and didn’t receive an immediate response Sept. 17.

Astrel will be extradited to Georgia to face the charges against him, according to authorities.

“Thank you to SUNY Broome’s Campus Safety team for their partnership in safely removing this fugitive from their campus,” Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar said in a statement.

In a statement, SUNY Broome said Astrel was enrolled at the college as a part-time student , WIVT reported.
