A boater was passing through a waterway when he spotted a missing man’s car through his sonar, police in New Jersey said.

The car hadn’t been seen since it was driven by Dashand Stokelin , who vanished one morning in November 2016, when he was 36, according to the Atlantic City Police Department.

After the boater saw the car underwater in the Clam Thorofare in Atlantic City, he notified authorities, police said in an Oct. 4 news release.

The next day, divers from the Brigantine Fire Department Dive Team dove into the water and realized the car had been there for a while, according to authorities.

Then, New Jersey State Police and a construction company hoisted the car out of the water on Oct. 2, and it was identified as Stokelin’s car, police said.

There were no human remains inside the vehicle, according to police, who said an investigation is ongoing.

Stokelin was reported missing by his family on Nov. 23, 2016, authorities said.

During the last known sighting of him in Atlantic City, Stokelin was wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers hat, black jeans, a yellow hoodie and Huarache Nike Air sneakers, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

The Atlantic City Police Department asks anyone who might have information about Stokelin’s disappearance to contact the department’s Criminal Investigations section at 609-347-5766 or by sending an anonymous text to tip411 (847411).
