Almost 10 million pounds of meat and chicken products recalled. Testing found listeria

About 9,986,245 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products have been recalled by the manufacturer because they might have listeria, the USDA announced late Tuesday.

These products from BrucePac, an Oregon company that made these products from June 19 through Oct. 8. They’re sold under the brands BrucePac; Urban Bruce; City Grillers; and retailers private labels. The exact products recalled by BrucePac weren’t named in the late Tuesday USDA release, a 75-product list was posted Wednesday afternoon.

“ BrucePac produces custom-crafted, pre-cooked proteins for top brands in retail, leading food service operators, and other channels,” its website says.

The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service says it found listeria through routine finished product testing and “subsequent FSIS investigation identified BrucePac ready-to-eat chicken as the source of the listeria...”

Anyone with a recalled product should return it to the seller for a full refund. Questions should be directed to BrucePac’s Vice President of Business Development Jeff Golangco at 503-874-3000.

Listeria infections strike about two weeks after eating infected food, according to the CDC. Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, and kills one in six other women, men and children infected. Otherwise, look for fever, headaches, balance problems, muscle aches and, possibly, seizures.
