A member of the Mississippi National Guard was convicted three years after her girlfriend was found shot to death inside a Georgia hotel, prosecutors told local news stations.

Selena Kellum, 26, was found guilty Oct. 4 of felony murder , aggravated assault and other charges stemming from the December 2021 incident, WXIA reported, citing the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

Kellum was accused of shooting and killing her girlfriend, 24-year-old Shaikia Strong, after an argument at an InTown Suites hotel in Smyrna, according to the station.

She faced charges of murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, entering an auto with intent to commit theft and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, the SunHerald previously reported.

McClatchy News reached out to the Mississippi National Guard for comment Oct. 10 and was awaiting a response.

Officers were called to the hotel on Dec. 23, 2021, to do a wellness check and found Strong dead from multiple gunshot wounds , prosecutors told WAGA. Investigators said she was shot twice in the face and once in the neck.

“Shaikia left her hometown in Mississippi to pursue her dream of becoming an actor, and at the time of her death, she was on the path to achieving that dream,” Senior District Attorney Jared Horowitz said in a statement.

“This jury’s verdict ensures justice for Shaikia and holds Selena Kellum accountable for her actions,” Horowitz said, according to the station.

Investigators learned Kellum discarded the shell casings, packed her things and stole several items from Strong before escaping to her sister’s house in Mississippi, WANF reported, citing the district attorney’s office.

She was accused of hiding the evidence at a storage facility in Biloxi but eventually turned herself in to police, prosecutors told the station.

Prosecutors said Kellum will be sentenced at a later date.

Smyrna is about a 20-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
