Subway’s new bread is a first for the sandwich chain, but it won’t stick around.

Ghost pepper bread is available as of Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Subway shops nationwide and debuted alongside two new sandwiches, the Miami-based sub chain said in a news release.

It’s Subway’s first new bread in three years and touted as its “spiciest ever.”

“Spicy food is wildly popular, and our guests have told us they are craving more spice on our menu,” Paul Fabre, senior vice president of culinary and innovation at Subway, said in the release.

Made with Italian bread, the dough is coated with ghost pepper, habanero and paprika-seasoned panko breadcrumbs and topped with Monterey cheddar cheese and jalapenos, a product description reads.

It’s then baked until golden, Subway said.

The bread can be paired with any sub on the menu, including the newest additions:

    • Spicy nacho steak: sliced steak in a creamy cheddar sauce topped with green peppers, red onion, jalapenos, SubKrunch topping and a sriracha drizzle.
    • Fiery meatball: pepperonis, meatballs and pepper jack cheese topped with extra jalapenos, sriracha sauce and melted pepper jack and Parmesan cheeses.

Ghost pepper bread is available for a limited time, though Subway didn’t say how long.

It’s just the latest offering as the sandwich chain continues to transform its menu.

Earlier this year, Subway added footlong dippers featuring lavash-style rolled flatbreads and debuted new signature subs , sauces and toppings.
