Already short-handed at outside linebacker, the Dolphins are now dealing with another injury at the position.

Starting outside linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah has an undisclosed injury and “is day to day,” Mike McDaniel said.

McDaniel declined to say if Ogbah will play Sunday at Indianapolis but said he is “doing well.”

Ogbah, who has two sacks this season, wasn’t spotted at the past two Dolphins practices - Oct. 8 and this past Monday. But he returned to practice on Wednesday; media can watch only for a few minutes so it’s unclear if he was a limited participant.

The Dolphins did not announce any injury to Ogbah during Miami’s last game; the nature of the injury likely will appear on the team’s Wednesday late-afternoon injury report.

The Dolphins now have four healthy edge players and none have a sack this season -- rookie Chop Robinson, Quinton Bell (who played only one snap against New England), Tyus Bowser (who joined the team two weeks ago) and Mo Kamara, who hasn’t played a snap yet in his rookie season.

Jaelan Phillips is out for the year with a knee injury, and Bradley Chubb and Cam Goode remain on PUP after late-season knee injuries, with neither yet able to practice.

Meanwhile, running back De’Von Achane is progressing through concussion protocol “with all things positive,” McDaniel said. “We feel good where he’s at.”

Safety Jevon Holland’s status for Sunday’s game remains unclear; if he plays, it likely would be with some sort of protective covering over his left hand, which has a broken bone.

McDaniel said Holland would like to play but “he’s going to be smart with the team and not be irresponsible forcing a round peg into a square hole. But he knows... we’re better off with him playing.”

It would not be a surprise if safety Jordan Poyer is sidelined for a second game in a row with a shin injury.

Receiver River Cracraft, who’s on injured reserve but now eligible to return, isn’t ready to begin practicing yet after a preseason shoulder injury. Asked when he will be able to practice, McDaniel said: “I don’t see it this week. It’s a week to week deal; encouraged by his progress.”

    McDaniel addressed other issues:

    ▪ He said he had no new information to share regarding whether Tua Tagovailoa would practice next week.

Tagovailoa is eligible to begin practicing next Wednesday and is eligible to play Oct. 27 against Arizona.

“When the next step occurs, the next step occurs,” McDaniel said, having said earlier this week that feedback from neurologists has been encouraging and positive. “You have to allows days to progress for evaluation of where you’re at and have a proper assessment.”

Tagovailoa reportedly hasn’t had symptoms, suggesting a return could be close unless he has a setback or unless a doctor says something disconcerting.

    ▪ What are McDaniel’s thoughts on the Jets trading for receiver Davante Adams and the Bills trading for receiver Amari Cooper?

“I’m not the guy to say, ‘oh man, somebody got somebody.’... You have to beat whatever team, whatever day, whatever stadium.”

    ▪ The Colts have said quarterback Anthony Richardson will start ahead of Joe Flacco against the Dolphins unless Richardson has a setback with a hip/oblique injury that sidelined him the past two weeks.

“He’s a cool player to watch, a problem for defenses,” McDaniel said of Richardson. “He can do a lot of things if you allow him to. Really big, fast, has a cannon.”

    PRACTICE REPORT

Achane appears close to clearing concussion protocol; he was practicing without a red non-contact jersey.

Holland, whose left hand was heavily wrapped, was participating in parts of the practice open to reporters; he caught two passes with his right hand, not the injured left hand. But he dropped a third pass that he tried to catch with his right hand. And he did not join the other defensive backs in a tackling drill.

Poyer was on the field with tights on both legs.

As noted above, Ogbah returned to practice.

Defensive lineman Calais Campbell and left tackle Terron Armstead weren’t spotted; they typically get a rest day on Wednesdays.
