The tropics aren’t done with hurricane season yet.

A new tropical storm, which would be named Nadine, is on the cusp of forming deep in the Caribbean Sea, the National Hurricane Center said at 5 p.m. Friday.

The forecast track poses no threat to the Gulf Coast of Florida and other states. But Belize could feel the impacts of a storm that could form by Saturday afternoon.

The NHC issued its first forecast cone for a potential tropical cyclone that could strengthen into a tropical depression as soon as Friday evening. By Saturday morning, the system has a slim window to strengthen into Nadine before coming ashore in Belize.

Belize issued a tropical storm watch for much of its coast. The system could bring 4 to 8 inches of rain through Central America, with some areas seeing up to a foot of rain.

“The official forecast indicates that the disturbance will reach low-end tropical storm status prior to landfall and then weaken before dissipating on Sunday,” the 5 p.m. NHC update read.
