Pool play games in Connie Mack World Series begin Friday
FARMINGTON – The Frackers will open pool play in the Connie Mack World Series on Friday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Worley Field against a team still to be determined. The pool play brackets were announced and released this week by the American Amateur Baseball Congress. The Frackers, the host team for the CMWS, were entered into Pool B, along with the Dallas-based D-Bat United. All 12 teams will play three games over the course of Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 with games at Worley Field, the Farmington Sports Complex and at Ricketts Park.

Jal High School’s new head football coach and athletic director, Brent Satterwhite, has already begun to have a significant impact on the Panther Football Team. Coming to Jal with 35 years of experience as a coach, Satterwhite spent the last four years as head coach and athletic director for Tatum. He says leaving Tatum was a hard decision for him, “because I love Tatum and the kids there. Great little community.” He is a native of Texas. He attended college at Abilene Christian University and then West Texas State University, which is now known as West Texas A&M University. He teaches social studies, physical education, and weightlifting.
Sheriff: Armed Mancos man shot dead after refusing deputies’ commands
A Mancos resident was fatally shot by Montezuma County deputies on Thursday after he refused repeated commands to drop the weapon, said Sheriff Steven Nowlin. The resident, John Thompson, 42, suffered several gunshot wounds and died at the scene after the deputies performed emergency medical aid on him, according to a news release from Nowlin.
