Orlando, Florida is famous for its theme parks, but it also holds many eerie legends. One of the spookiest spots is the Angebilt Building, formerly the Angebilt Hotel. Located in the Downtown Historic District, this building is home to strange stories and ghostly encounters.

    A Haunted History

Built by Joseph Ange and designed by Florida's first registered architect, Murry S. King, the Angebilt Hotel was once a luxurious destination. It was meant to be a million-dollar hotel for the rich and famous, but things didn’t go as planned. The hotel faced bankruptcy just six months after opening. Later, in 1944, it was damaged by a hurricane, and in 1993, a fire severely destroyed its top two floors. Though no longer a hotel, the Angebilt remains a spooky spot in the city’s history.

    Who Haunts the Angebilt?

The building is believed to be haunted by multiple spirits, with some suggesting that tunnels beneath it are the source of the paranormal activity. Some claim that the ghosts are even demonic. While not all of the identities of the spirits are known, their presence is often felt by visitors and employees alike. If you're curious about haunted Orlando, a ghost tour might be the perfect way to explore!

    Ghostly Encounters

Many who have spent time in the Angebilt Building have reported strange occurrences. Workers in offices claim to hear faint laughter and the sounds of parties coming from empty rooms. One employee even heard whispers and knocks on her door while working alone. After a thorough search, she found no one, and she refused to return to the office alone again.

Bathrooms in the building are also said to be haunted. Employees have experienced doors that refuse to unlock and violent shaking of the stalls. One terrified woman had to crawl under the stall to escape. She heard loud banging noises as she ran, but didn’t stop to see what caused them.

    The Tunnel of Terror

Beneath the building lies a tunnel that’s thought to be the most haunted area of all. Paranormal investigators have recorded high levels of supernatural activity there, and some claim to have seen apparitions. The tunnel is said to have an evil presence, with some describing it as demonic.

The Angebilt Building may no longer be a hotel, but its haunted past continues to frighten those who visit. From mysterious sounds to ghostly apparitions, it remains one of Orlando’s most chilling landmarks.
