A new story in The Atlantic explains why the city is beyond the point at which the climate crisis will virtually ruin it. “Miami Is Entering a State of Unreality No amount of adaptation to climate change can fix Miami’s water problems,” explains that the city’s infrastructure can no longer combat sudden large rainstorms and hurricane effects. The theory that the problems cannot be solved contradicts officials’ assurances that the city will remain safe. It is also the first major American city that climate change will likely ruin. The human costs will be high. Property costs will be well into the billions of dollars.
Livestock Emissions
Denmark will start a tax on livestock emissions. Livestock are among the largest sources of methane, which traps heat. The hope is that this will eventually lower livestock use by making the industry more expensive. Climatecrisis247 believes that taxes on emissions have been tried before but with limited success. The livestock business is generally very profitable, so an added tax may simply be passed on to consumers. Additionally, political resistance would block these taxes in many countries.
